PROJECT TITLE: Finding the distance between any two places in the India map.
CLASS : 8TH CLASS
AIM: : Finding the real distance between the capitals of two states using the scale
given below the India map.
REQUIRED MATERIAL : India map, pencil, scale, gum, 8th class maths text book.
REQUIRED PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE:
: ratios and proportions
PROCEDURE:
1. First i identified the capitals of certain states in the Indian map using pencil.
2. I noted down the scale given below the Indian map as 1cm = 200km
I. Finding the real distance between chennai and hyderabad:
a) First i pointed out chennai and hyderabad using pencil in the map.
b) I measured the distance between them using scale and i found it is 3cm.
c)
x1= 1cm x2= 3cm
y1= 200km y2 = ? (how many km)
d) x1/y1 = x2/y2
e) 1/200 = 3/y2
doing cross multiplication
y2= 600km
the real distance between chennai and hyderabad is 600km.
II. Finding the real distance between Bhuvaneshwar and Hyderabad:
a) First i pointed out Bhuvaneshwar and Hyderabad using pencil in the map.
b) I measured the distance between them using scale and i found it is 4.5cm.
c)
x1= 1cm x2= 4.5cm
y1= 200km y2 = ? (how many km)
d) x1/y1 = x2/y2
e) 1/200 = 4.5/y2
doing cross multiplication
y2= 900km
the real distance between bhuvaneshwar and hyderabad is 900km.
III. Finding the real distance between Panaji and Dehradun:
a) First i pointed out Panaji and Dehradun using pencil in the map.
b) I measured the distance between them using scale and i found it is 9.5cm.
c)
x1= 1cm x2= 9.5cm
y1= 200km y2 = ? (how many km)
d) x1/y1 = x2/y2
e) 1/200 = 9.5/y2
doing cross multiplication
y2= 1900km
the real distance between Panaji and Dehradun is 900km.
IV. Finding the real distance between Srinagar and Patna:
a) First i pointed out Srinagar and Patna using pencil in the map.
b) I measured the distance between them using scale and i found it is 4.5cm.
c)
x1= 1cm x2= 7.5cm
y1= 200km y2 = ? (how many km)
d) x1/y1 = x2/y2
e) 1/200 = 7.5/y2
doing cross multiplication
y2= 1500km
the real distance between Srinagar and Patna is 1500km.
RESULT: In this way i found the real distance between different places in the Indian map
using scale.
HYPOTHISIS: We can find distance between any two places in the world map by using the
scale give in the map.
